Blueprint for alternative investments in new pension system

In a comprehensive and practical paper, ten experts from diverse professional backgrounds outline the necessary actions that Dutch pension funds should consider for alternative investments.

The recent changes to the pension system in the Netherlands have significant implications for how pension funds structure their investments and the part alternative investments can play with their superior risk-return profile.

The new paper gives several recommendations including:

1. Governance of Valuation Methodologies: It is crucial to establish robust governance procedures for valuation methodologies. Clear guidelines will ensure accurate and consistent assessments.
2. Temporary Buffer: Given the potential for high volatility, pension funds may want to consider creating an additional temporary buffer. This can help mitigate risks during turbulent market conditions.

MN's performance measurement expert, Thomas Cornelissens, contributed to this research.
